Arizona Wildcat basketball has come to an end once again, after a season that was filled with highs, lows, and hope. After an exciting run in the NCAA Tourney last year, many Wildcat fans were hoping to see a repeat season with even greater results. While the season hasn’t necessarily been one of our best, Wildcat fans never lost hope in their favorite team- and luckily never lost their fashion tastes either!
The last game was a ‘Red Out’- a little different from the White Out against Washington- but Wildcat fans showed up, ready to beat the Bruins, and of course see the new Platinum Uniforms donated by Nike to 9 schools with previous National Championship titles.
The new platinum uniforms showcased a different side to our Wildcats and while platinum has never been in our team’s wardrobe choices, they looked amazing on the court and McKale gladly welcomed the new uniforms.
We would be foolish to not mention one of the most exciting aspects of the game- the fact 1,500 crazy ZonaZoo fans got free Nike shirts just for showing up at the game. The shirt could be seen everywhere you looked and was an amazing addition to the last home game for the season.
With my free shirt and the ‘Red Out’ at this game, I found the perfect jewelry to wear with my themed outfit.
The matching bracelet and earrings were the finishing touches on my red outfit
With so many different things going on at the game, I couldn’t decide what to look for, fashion-wise, and what would make a great blog. That’s when I realized that this final home game marks the end of another season in McKale and the sports fashion world- and this blog should be dedicated to the many different fashion trends that makes the University of Arizona recognizable and a fun atmosphere to be a part of.
The ‘Cut Shirt’
One thing Arizona fans are known for year round is that we like to cut up our shirts. There are so many ways to cut a shirt- off the shoulder, tank top/spaghetti straps, fringe. You name it and you will see it on campus.
Basketball games are no exception.
No matter what time of year it is, a cut shirt allows each Wildcat fan to express themselves and stand out from a crowd of what could be the most boring thing you’ve ever seen. With the warmer weather hanging around Tucson like winter doesn’t exist, the cut shirts were alive and well at the Red Out.
Crazy Costumes
Every Arizona fan has seen them. They are the ZonaZoo members dressed as Gumby, the bananas, or the Blue (or Red) Gorilla. Call it being silly or being expressive, while these are not fashions you would typically walking the streets of Tucson, I included them in my fashion report because no U of A basketball game would be the same without them there.
Nothing but the Red and Blue
When one walks into a U of A Basketball game on campus, we expect to see our colors- Red and Blue. Arizona fans take it one step further than just clothes- we get creative.
Even our security guards like to get in on the Wildcat spirit- loving this look!
Tom’s Shoes are a popular item on our campus this year and this pair of Tom’s looks like a perfect (and comfortable!) fit for the perfect weather we had Saturday afternoon. Not to mention the red Tom’s are a PERFECT match to our Wildcat red!
While scanning the crowd, its plain to see that we wear our colors with pride and we love our team- whether they are blowing away the competition or holding true to their ‘other’ name, the Cardiac ‘Cats. This U of A Basketball season has definitely brought out some of the best fashions and I am truly sad to see the home games come to an end.
However…
As they say, with every ending, there is a new beginning. While basketball season may be over at home for the ‘Cats, Arizona Baseball is just now heating up!
Catch LaDiva Sport at all home baseball games- and get ready for the great fashions that the Tucson outdoors will provide for Arizona fans! We’ll see you there!
