There She is, Miss America

The second weekend in January saw 53 women from across the United States travel to Las Vegas to compete in the Miss America Pageant, representing each state along with the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.

I was fortunate enough to attend the pageant and cheer on my friend and fellow University of Arizona Wildcat, Miss Arizona Jennifer Sedler. She performed beautifully and advanced through each round of competition, eventually placing 3rd runner up to the Miss America title. Arizona is SO proud, Jenn!

While at the pageant, I was able to show off some of my LaDiva Sport jewelry. Don’t forget to check out our website at www.LaDivaSport.com to find some amazing jewelry that will be perfect to wear at the next Basketball game or night out with your friends!

On to the actual pageant! Swimsuit is what seems to catch everyone’s eye, but my favorite part has always been the evening gown competition. With Miss America taking place at the height of ‘Awards Season’, I feel the Miss America Pageant is the perfect place to see all the popular gowns that we just might see on the Red Carpet in the next couple of months. While there are many gowns that grace the Miss America stage, some dresses always leave me scratching my head and wondering what made them choose that dress. The same thing always happens during Awards Season, but that is all part of playing “Fashion Police” with the gowns. However, some dresses are absolutely amazing in every way that leave me speechless. This blog is dedicated to the Top 5 dresses of the pageant and predictions as to what we think we will see this season in Hollywood.  Which do YOU think will be on the Red Carpet this awards season?

Myself and 4 others, all with different tastes and backgrounds, judged each dress separately and determined a Top 5 with 2 (two) Honorable Mentions. The dresses have been judged on the following:
·        Red Carpet appeal
·        Fit of the gown on the girl
·        Style/Color
·        How well the dress photographs
·        Overall look

4th Runner Up to Best Dressed at Miss America: Miss Washington

Miss Washington is wearing a dress that belongs on the red carpet. The dress fits her really well (no wrinkles) and she looks confident. Usually at Miss America, contestants tend to stay away from black, but this works for her. Although simple, the dress comes across sophisticated and chic in this photograph. Make-up and hair finish off this look to a stunning 4th runner up finish.
3rd Runner Up to Best Dressed at Miss America: Miss New Jersey

Miss New Jersey is wearing a gown that I could see some of my favorite stars strutting in on the red carpet this season. Although white is often a hard color to pull off, she does it with style and grace and managed to find a gown that compliments her features. Her gown is perfect for both the red carpet and Miss America stage, landing her in the3rd runner up spot.

2nd Runner Up to Best Dressed at Miss America: Miss Wisconsin

Miss Wisconsin (and eventual Miss America) is the splitting image of Kate Middleton. She even revealed that she had her gown designed to capture the look of Princess Kate- and she does it quite well. Again, its refreshing to see a black dress on the Miss America stage and the fit of the gown shows off an elegant and total package look. Miss Wisconsin looks amazing in this gown and you can tell she loves being in it. Styles like this gown will make many appearances on the red carpet this Spring and they will all look gorgeous. Because of these reasons, she is in the 2nd runner up position of best dressed.

1st Runner Up to Best Dressed at Miss America: Miss Illinois

I love seeing a girl who looks confident in what she is wearing. Miss Illinois has this written all over her. The neutral color is something I feel fans will see their favorite stars dawning on the red carpet and we all know sparkle is a girl’s best friend. The gown fits her small frame thru the bottom where it then flows with each step she takes. The dress photographs beautifully (although in person, the sparkle is stunning) and it looks like something I would and could stare at in a magazine. The dress works well with her coloring and is a definite head-turner, bringing in the 1st runner up spot.

Winner, Best Dressed at Miss America: (drumroll please) MISS IOWA

Growing up, I always heard the term ‘fits like a glove’ but I never truly understood it until Miss Iowa came out on stage in her evening gown. Jersey material is not an easy type of material to pull off because it shows EVERY bump, crease, line, etc. but you would need a microscope to see any of that on this girl. The style works for her and has just enough sparkle to catch your attention and the rest sex appeal to make you never want to turn away. The dress presents itself in photographs in such a unique way that even in person, she still looks as if she belongs on the red carpet. Her dress is the epitome of a modern gown; even though she is on the Miss America stage, the picture looks like it could have been taken at an award show. Congratulations on a fabulous dress choice and our choice as the Best Dress at Miss America.

Honorable Mention: Miss Texas

Texas is one of our Honorable Mentions this year. Her dress is perfect for her body type the coloring goes well with her skin tone and hair color. The ‘WOW’ factor of the dress also gives off some red carpet appeal- but most of the people deciding on this dress felt it would most likely be seen at a pageant. The dress doesn’t look completely different in person (like some dresses seem to) and her overall look gives off a confident and feminine vibe.

Honorable Mention: Miss Arkansas

This gown received mixed reviews from our panel, which landed her as an Honorable Mention. The striking color of the gown against her skin tone and hair color is beautiful. Although I’m usually not a fan of one-shouldered dresses, Miss Arkansas pulls this off with flying colors. I also appreciate how her entire gown doesn’t have to be head-to-toe sparkles, and she covers the sparkle factor with the top part of the gown and the rest fits her all the way down. Will this be a look we see on the red carpet this season?

So there you have it! The Best Dressed of Miss America 2012.
